To provide women an opportunity to build testimony of Jesus Christ in themselves and others, refine their talents, and develop friendships, thereby strengthening self, family, and community.
About Choralais
Choralais Women's Ensemble is a non-audition women's choir which has been around for over 45 years, a holdout from the days of the Relief Society Singing Mothers choirs. A contraction of "Choral Ladies," Choralais is pronounced kor-uh-lay. Based in Payson, Utah, Choralais also draws members from surrounding communities. We currently have about 30 members, but we would love to have more!
Choralais usually performs twice a year: the second or third Sunday in December (our Christmas program) and the 4th Sunday in April for a Spring/Easter program. If there is sufficient interest, additional performances will be considered.
Rehearsal and Dues Information
Rehearsals are held Thursday nights in the Payson Mountain View Stake Center chapel, 75 E 600 S, Payson, from 7:00-8:15 p.m. Although Sunday dress is not required, members are encouraged to dress respectfully for the chapel.
Rehearsals for our Christmas concert begin the Thursday after Labor Day (September). Rehearsals for our Easter concert begin the Thursday after New Year's Day.
Dues are currently $25 for both concerts, if paid in September, or $15 per concert otherwise.
About the Director Tiffany Jacobson
Hello Everyone! I am extremely excited for this opportunity to make music with you and believe the future holds exciting things for the choir!
I have been asked to write a quick write up of myself and my experience. So, here we go: I am a stay-at-home-mother of 4 young children and a fifth on then way. 2 boys and 2 girls. They keep me busy, busy, busy! In my spare time one day a week I run a private voice studio and than try and keep up with laundry and cleaning the house. Ugh. (Sadly, I fall way behind on the cleaning part!!!!!!!)
I have been involved with music since I was 5 when my mother started me on the piano. I LOVED it, excelled and wanted to continue with more- so at age 9 I picked up a violin. Those were the beginnings! In High School I was heavily involved with All State Choirs and Orchestras, school orchestra and choir, and the community orchestra.
Since then I have had opportunities to serve as a choir president, choir secretary, and section leader in various choirs and orchestras. While I was in college I also had opportunities to be a student director, the Assistant to the Director of Choral Studies, and sing in elite auditioned choral groups. I also worked as the student assistant to the Department of Performing Arts and maintained memberships in American Choral Directors Association and Music Educators National Conference. After graduating from college I felt it necessary to torment myself by going to graduate school in choral conducting. While there I was the Teacher’s Assistant over the library at that university. After said torment was endured for as long as I could, I taught middle school choir for two years.
Fortunately, since becoming a full-time wife and mom, I have been able to maintain my touch with the musical society by teaching in my home, being an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and taking advantage of various volunteer opportunities.
I am absolutely thrilled for this new opportunity with the local women’s choir!
